Barn Construction
The first photo collection shows the progress on Nolan and Marsha's barn. You might think that since they are living out of their horse trailer, Nolan and Marsha would have tried to quickly finish the house. In true Western fashion, they started with the barn!

This barn is designed to house two of their favorite things - horses and friends. Horse stalls and a tack room line one side of the barn and two bunk house rooms for guests make up the other side. A hay loft completes the structure. Nolan and Marsha framed it and Black Dog Timber provided board and batt siding for the barn. They had us leave the bark on the siding which contrasts with the lighter wood for a rustic and charming facade.

Cabin Construction
Although the barn was started first, the house construction is not far behind. This cabin will be Nolan and Marsha's summer home, as they winter in Georgia near their family.

The logs used for this project are 9" pine lathed logs, which we hand-peeled after lathing. The house is approximately 1500 square feet with a half-loft. The many windows take full advantage of the exceptional view Nolan and Marsha have from atop the hill.

Nolan and Marsha hope to have the shell of the house weather-tight before they leave this fall. The weather (especially the wind that Big Timber is so famous for) here has slowed progress, but they still expect to have the roof on soon.
